BE DOPE NEWS (BDN) Internet sucess story poster-child Amazon.com today announced it has acquired BeDepot.com from Be, Inc. for a total of US$158 million in cash and stock.

"It's mostly cash," commented Be, Inc. CEO Jean-Louis Gassée. "Just to be on the safe side."

BeDepot.com, in addition to providing an online store for BeOS software, also provides many services and features not found on other services on any platform.

"Our strategy in acquiring BeDepot.com is twofold," explained George Aposporos, Vice President of Business Development . "First, we plan to incorporate some of BeDepot's delivery methods as we begin to deliver books and music digitally. Second, we believe soon BeOS software will be as ubiquitous as books and music. The acquistion of BeDepot.com puts us years ahead of any competition."

BeOS developers are said to be happy with the merger.

"I am looking forward to the extra two million hits a day Amazon.com's marketing tactics will bring me," one developer reportedly said.
