17 December, 4.51pm pst Be Creates New Standard of Measure
BE DOPE NEWS (BDN) Today the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) approved a new standard of measurement, submitted by Be, Inc. and already in common use in the computer industry.
Teapot-frames per second (tps, generally pronounced tee-pees) will become an "official" unit of measurement to "be used in gauging the general performance of a machine running the BeOS."
"This standard was approved rather quickly," admitted NIST's Mark Bello "but I've been hearing the term being used more and more often around the office, so it was an easy decision to make."
The standard teapot used to make the measurement is composed of 3,136 triangles, and is launched by the GLTeapot application, found in the Demos folder of a standard install of the BeOS.
The tps measurement is most often taken when upgrading to a new version of R4 or changing the processor of a machine, according to recent reports.
